EVP, General Counsel & COO
Steve participated in the financial services industry coalition that obtained passage of the Illinois version of the Uniform Commercial Code Revised Article 9. He also drafted amendments to the Vehicle Code that abolished repossession titles in Illinois. In response to the residential mortgage foreclosure crisis that began in 2008 and escalated through 2013, he participated in financial services industry coalition efforts to negotiate reasonable responses to legislative initiatives amending the Illinois foreclosure law. He has drafted and testified in support of countless other measures amending numerous acts and laws that impact financial institution operations.
Prior to joining Accomplus and ICUL, Steve was in private practice in Galesburg, primarily involved in general corporate, municipal, commercial, bankruptcy and consumer finance law. He served on the Commercial Banking and Bankruptcy Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association (1996–2008) and as its chairman (2006–2007), as well as its legislative committee chair.
He graduated with honors from St. Olaf College and received his law degree from the University of Iowa. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and Iowa, and is a member of the Illinois and Iowa State Bar Associations and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He speaks frequently to various bar and creditor groups on secured transactions, default remedies and bankruptcy matters.
SVP, Regulatory Affairs & Member Outreach
Patrick provides critical advocacy and consulting services to member credit unions with regard to regulatory examination compliance and technical issues. He also provides related education and training in a number of venues to advise credit unions of trends in credit union operations and help develop corrective plans to address specific operational challenges. In addition, Patrick supervises the league’s Department of Regulatory Affairs and Member Outreach.
Prior to joining ICUL, Patrick started with the Department of Financial Institutions in 1987 as a credit union examiner and assumed the role of assistant supervisor in 1995. In 1999, he became the supervisor of the Credit Union Division.
Assistant Vice President, Member Outreach
Before beginning his professional career, Pat served in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated with high honors from Southwest Illinois College with a degree in business management.
He is a Certified Credit Union Executive and Certified Strategic Planner. In his downtime, he loves to hunt and ride his motorcycle all over the country.
Vice President, Compliance
Prior to joining the League, Joni worked at the Midwest Association of Credit Unions (MACU), where she served as president beginning in June 2002. While at MACU, she worked on a variety of member programs and services, as well as regulatory and legislative matters.
Joni earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Benedictine University. She also holds the Credit Union Development Educator, Credit Union Compliance Expert and Certified Regulatory Vendor Program Manager designations. In addition, Joni is the 2014 recipient of CUNA’s CU Hero award.
Compliance and Corporate Counsel
Katherine comes to us with private law firm experience and tenure with the Federal Trade Commission in both the Washington, D.C. and Chicago offices. While with the FTC, she litigated claims involving many consumer protection laws that relate to credit union operations.
Katherine earned her undergraduate degree from New York University where she was Phi Beta Kappa and valedictorian of her class. She received her law degree from Harvard Law School, where she graduated cum laude.
Kari researches laws and regulations in a wide range of topical areas to assist credit unions with compliance and regulatory related questions. She also tracks proposed regulations impacting credit unions and coordinates the preparation of Legal & Technical Bulletin articles for distribution to credit unions addressing relevant statutory/regulatory/legal issues. Kari also assists in facilitating the ICUL Compliance Peer Networking Group.
Prior to becoming part of the Accomplus team, Kari worked in the ICUL Office of General Counsel where she assisted credit unions with their technical and regulatory questions. She holds an associate’s degree in paralegal studies and has earned the designation of CUNA Certified Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE).
