Each year, individuals from Illinois credit unions participate in the Enhanced Financial Counseling Certification Program (FICEP) thanks to the generous support from the Illinois Credit Union Foundation, making it more cost-effective for credit unions to participate.
Financial Education is a core principle of credit unions, and the ICU Foundation has been a leader in helping credit unions provide this valuable information as well as consumer-friendly products and services to their members. The ICU Foundation connects credit unions with the best educational programs, the latest research, and innovative ideas to improve the financial well-being of their members.
Together with the National Credit Union Foundation, the ICU Foundation builds member and consumer financial capability by offering toolkits for product development, credit union financial counseling certification, experiential learning programs (Reality Fairs, Retirement Fairs, and Life Simulations), planning/coaching, and speaking/training.
Retirement Fairs are interactive, thought-provoking and lively events to help adults envision their lifestyles during their retirement years and determine how much money is necessary to make this vision a reality. The National Credit Union Foundation offers the “Retire on Track” kit to help credit unions host Retirement Fairs.
Teachers who are responsible for conducting financial education in their classrooms are often intimidated by the subject because they have not received training in it. The ICU Foundation hosts Teacher Training sessions to help instructors become familiar with the topics and to provide guidance on the most effective ways to teach the materials.
